Even though measles was declared eliminated in 2000 by the CDC, outbreaks continue to occur every year. By March 21st, 2024, the number of cases surpassed the total number of cases for 2023. This module describes an overview of measles clinical presentation, prevention and control measures, and future considerations for mitigation.

At the conclusion of this program, the participant will be able to: 

  • Describe the current state of measles in the United States
  • Discuss an overview of measles and the clinical presentation
  • Describe measles prevention measures
  • Explain measures to control measles after a confirmed case

Vanessa Fisk BSN, RN, CCRC

Clinical Research Nurse

Vanessa Fisk is a Clinical Research Nurse with Norton Healthcare and supports the Kentucky Infection Prevention Training Center through development of simulation training and innovative education strategies, as well as assisting with CME digital content creation. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and continues her lifelong learning journey as she is in the process of obtaining her Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on Nursing Informatics. With over 17 years of nursing experience in a variety of settings, that extensive experience combined with her passion for safe patient care continues to fuel her motivation for continued research and education related to infection prevention and control practices.
